Tough breaks

Spring Break is here! No big plans were made but we were excited to have some time off. With the kids on different school schedules, these times don't happen often!

The baseball team scheduled to play in a tournament in Greenville for 3 days during the break. Saturday was beautiful and sunny. Perfect baseball weather! The first game was against D.H. Conley High School. The game didn't go down as we would have liked...

Hello! Notice how exceptionally large that #20 is?

Evan scored the only run we had that game...

He was playing in right field. Then this happens...

I knew something was wrong. I was right!

The Huskies lost 13-1 and we drove home and headed to urgent care.

 The verdict: Broken Right Thumb

They splinted his hand and we were instructed to follow up with a specialist as soon as possible. So we got in with Dr. Erikson at Raleigh Hand Center on Monday. Dr. Erikson saw Evan 2 years ago when he broke the same thumb playing football. Yes, the same thumb!

He numbed him up and re-set the bone then put him in a partial cast for a few weeks. We go back in 2 weeks to follow up. The plan is to put him in a removable splint in 3-4 weeks and no ball for 6-8 weeks. There goes the season.
