We are grateful for a new year and a fresh reminder of God's goodness to our family. We are often overwhelmed at His provision for us and thankful for healthy children and wonderful friends to share life with. Just last night, we had friends in our home and watched the National Championship game and talked about life and ministry and "things to come." We met these friends after moving to NC three years ago and they have become family to us. It's the simple things that we have come to appreciate... But while we had the opportunity to hang out and watch football with our friends and family, there are others who have been deeply devastated by the turn of events in their lives in the last few weeks. Steve McKinion, a professor at Southeastern Seminary, is watching his ten year old son, Harrison, fight for his life. The week before Christmas, Harrison was diagnosed with leukemia. Within the last week or so, Harrison had a stroke and nearly died. Just yesterday they were told that it is a rare form of leukemia and is not responding to treatment. His Dad tweeted last night, "Watching the game with my family. I love these moments, even while weeping inside." I can't even imagine the heartache they are going through. Their son is Noah's age. Their life has been changed forever yet they remain faithful because they know HE is faithful. No matter what!
I recently started reading "Age of Opportunity: A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens" by Paul David Tripp. Just today I was reading about how our family is a theological community and that we are to live our lives with a moment by moment consciousness of God. "In every situation, in every problem, in every location, in every relationship, every time, God is at work. Every moment is God's moment." While reading this, my thoughts were immediately drawn to the McKinion family. I stopped and lifted them up in prayer. Will you do the same?

I will be praying for them and will pass this prayer request along.
