I've come to the conclusion that Natalie may not make it to Pre-K this year. In North Carolina, we don't have public Pre-K like in Georgia. There are many opportunities for private pre-school but we just can't afford the tuition... so, I'm now going to do the home-school gig with Natalie! We've worked on things before but we've never had a routine or scheduled time to do "school work" as she calls it. So, I've devised a plan!!! Starting this week, we will focus on a letter a week and a shape. Then we'll work on numbers and move towards other skills such as: same/different, big/small, in/out, up/down, on/off, over/under, near/far, and left/right. Many of these skills Natalie already knows but I want to consistently give her opportunities to further her knowledge. This week, our letter is Nn and our shape is a circle... She already can write her name, so "N" is easy! We talked about things in our house that start with the letter N, colored a picture of a nest and a necklace, and practiced writing the letter N. We will also have a bible story each day and have a special time to pray together. After our "class" this morning, we went for a walk outside and tried to identify things that were circles. Natalie is really good at this! She also found lots of stuff inside that were circles... We are off to a great start!

Hey Shaana,
ReplyDeleteI think it's very cool you are home schooling Natalie. Your plans sound awesome! If you ever want help, ideas, whatever, I have a close friend from college who is a preschool teacher (3 & 4 year olds) and also happens to be in the ministry like ya'll. (Her husband is an Episcopal priest). Just give me a holler on Facebook, and I can hook you guys up.
