This morning we hit the streets in the West Loop area to collect data for John Patrick and the church he is planting there. We had conversations with several people and would like to ask you to pray for these particular people:
Jeffrey - lost his wife to cancer and is raising his son in the city - pray for a job to help support his family and for his salvation (His son was super cute and did some "tricks" on his bike for me!)
Dzuy Dao - Vietnamese Buddhist (restaurant owner and interior designer) Not interested in "talking religion" as he called it but was eager to help out in our efforts to learn the area. He did willingly give his contact info, so we are passing it on to the pastor in hopes that he might establish a relationship with him in the future and share Christ with him.
Adrianna - young Hispanic female; claims to be Catholic only because her family is - She really doesn't know much about the religion and is open to exploring and hearing about other people's beliefs. Pray that my conversation with her planted a seed!
Janine - young African American female with 3 children; claims to be a Christian but doesn't go to church much; had a great conversation with her and encouraged her to put Christ first in her life.
These are just a few of the encounters today. The rest of our team was spread out around the neighborhood and had many stories to share tonight. God is so good and is at work here.
We met some other people who work with the Baptist Convention today as well. We also had lunch at the famous "Wishbone" restaurant, which is known for it's southern cooking (and it's just around the corner from Oprah's studio). I was particularly happy to have mashed potatoes and fried chicken, especially since I had to eat at a Thai restaurant for lunch yesterday:) Well, I actually ordered Japanese because I figured I could tolerate it better, but either way, it wasn't my usual American favorites. Yes, I am being forced to venture out!
Pray for our last 2 days here. We'll be going back to the UIC campus and the Loyola campus tomorrow. I've had some migraine headaches the last 2 days, but nothing too bad. I was able to take my medication and get some relief. One of the other females was up all Monday night vomitting and in bed all day yesterday. Pray for her strength to regain quickly and that no one else gets sick! We are all tired from the long days of walking but blessed by out time here. Can't wait to see what happens these next few days!
